Privacy and data
1. Who is responsible for this site
StrifePeek is published and operated by an individual, not by a company. The operator is the person responsible for the personal information described in this notice:
- Connor MacDonald, publisher and editor of StrifePeek
- 2232 Bloor St W, Toronto, Ontario M6S 1N6, Canada
- Telephone: +1 416-769-9909
- E-mail: editors@strifepeek.com
References to “the operator”, “I” or “the desk” in this notice mean that individual. There is no company, no staff and no group of contributors behind StrifePeek.
2. What this notice covers
This notice explains how personal information is handled in connection with the website published at strifepeek.com. It is written to meet the requirements of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA, S.C. 2000, c. 5) and the ten fair information principles set out in its Schedule 1. Where consumer-facing obligations apply to the operator, they are read together with the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (S.O. 2002, c. 30, Schedule A) of Ontario, administered by the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. Commercial electronic messages, if any are ever sent, are governed by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL, S.C. 2010, c. 23).
It does not cover Google Play, the store listings referenced here, or any game published there: those are third-party services under their own privacy notices.
3. The short version
StrifePeek is a static, read-only editorial site with no contact form, no comment field, no sign-up, no newsletter, no accounts and no analytics of its own. No page asks a visitor to type anything, and no script sends anything from the browser back to the operator. The only personal information the operator holds is what a reader chooses to put in an e-mail or a telephone call.
4. Information the site does not collect
Because there is no form of any kind on any page, the site collects no names, e-mail addresses, postal addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, card details, government identifiers or profile information. There is no advertising network, no behavioural profiling, no re-targeting pixel, no social widget and no third-party analytics script. Nothing is sold, rented or shared for marketing purposes, because nothing is gathered in the first place.
5. Information processed automatically when a page is served
Like every site on the public internet, StrifePeek cannot be delivered without a small amount of technical information passing between the reader's device and the servers involved. Two service providers are involved in delivering pages:
- The hosting provider, which stores the files and answers requests for them.
- Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site as a content delivery network and protects it against attacks and automated abuse.
In the course of delivering a page, those providers may process: the requested address (URL), the referring address if the browser sends one, the type and version of browser and operating system, screen and device characteristics reported by the browser, the approximate country derived from the network address, the date and time of the request, the response status and size, and aggregate performance measurements such as Core Web Vitals. Cloudflare also processes the network address itself for security purposes and may place its own operational cookies in the browser for that reason; those are described in Cookies and storage.
The operator receives no identifiable record of this data, builds no reports from it and makes no attempt to connect it to a person. It exists for delivery and security only.
6. Storage on your own device
StrifePeek stores exactly one value in the browser's local storage, and only after a reader presses a button in the storage notice. The key is sp5_consent and its only purpose is to remember that the notice has already been answered so it does not appear again. It contains no identifier, holds no history of pages read, is never transmitted anywhere, and can be deleted at any time through the browser's site-data controls. The full list of keys and cookies is set out on the Cookies and storage page.
7. Information you send by e-mail or telephone
If you write to the address above or call the number above, the operator will hold what you send: your e-mail address or telephone number, the content of your message and any attachments, for as long as needed to deal with the matter. That information is used only to answer you, to correct the site where a correction is due, or to comply with a legal obligation. It is not added to any mailing list and is not used to send anything you did not ask for. Under PIPEDA the basis for holding it is your own consent, given by the act of contacting the desk, together with the operator's legitimate need to keep a record of correspondence about published material.
8. Purposes, and the limits on them
Personal information connected with this site is processed for four purposes only: delivering the requested pages; keeping the site available and defended against automated abuse; answering correspondence; and meeting legal obligations, including a right-of-reply or takedown request from a rights holder. No other purpose is pursued, and nothing is used for automated decision-making or profiling.
9. Disclosure to others
The operator does not sell, rent or trade personal information. Technical processing is carried out by the hosting provider and by Cloudflare acting on the operator's behalf. Information may also be disclosed where a Canadian law, court order or lawful request by a public authority requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.
10. Transfers outside Canada
Cloudflare operates a global network and will normally serve a page from the point of presence nearest the reader, which for Canadian readers is usually within Canada but may be in the United States or elsewhere. The hosting provider may also store files outside Canada. PIPEDA permits such transfers to a service provider for processing, provided the organisation transferring the information remains accountable for it and uses contractual means to give it a comparable level of protection. The operator relies on the service agreements and data-processing terms of those providers for that purpose, and remains accountable for the information while it is in their hands. Information held in another country may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that country under its own laws.
11. How long information is kept
Server and security logs are held by the hosting provider and by Cloudflare for short technical periods, typically days or a few weeks, and then deleted or aggregated. Correspondence by e-mail is kept for up to twenty-four months from the last message, and longer only where a legal claim or a statutory obligation requires it. The single local-storage key stays in the reader's browser until the reader clears it.
12. Your rights under PIPEDA
Subject to the limited exceptions PIPEDA allows, you may:
- ask whether the operator holds personal information about you, and obtain access to it;
- ask for information that is inaccurate or incomplete to be corrected;
- revoke a consent you previously gave, on reasonable notice, subject to legal and contractual limits;
- ask for an explanation of the purposes for which information is used and to whom it has been disclosed;
- challenge the operator's compliance with the Act.
Requests should go to the e-mail or postal address in section 1. The operator will respond in writing, normally within thirty days, and will explain any refusal and the reason for it. There is no charge for a first request. Because the site itself collects nothing, most requests can be answered simply by confirming that no record exists other than correspondence.
13. Complaints
If you are not satisfied with the answer, you may complain to the federal regulator:
- Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
- 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 1H3
- Toll-free 1-800-282-1376 · priv.gc.ca
Complaints about consumer matters in Ontario may be directed to the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
14. Age
StrifePeek is written for an adult general audience and is not directed at children. The operator does not knowingly hold personal information about anyone under sixteen years of age. Readers under sixteen should not send e-mail to the desk without the involvement of a parent or guardian; if such a message is received, it will be answered only to the extent needed and then deleted.
15. Electronic messages
The operator does not run a mailing list and does not send bulk or promotional messages. Any e-mail from the desk is a reply to a message received, which CASL treats as sent within an existing relationship, and every message identifies the sender and gives the postal address and e-mail address in section 1.
16. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection and contains no database, no login area and no user-generated content. Correspondence is held in a mailbox protected by a strong unique credential and second-factor authentication. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, and absolute security of e-mail cannot be guaranteed.
17. Changes to this notice
This notice may be updated when the site changes or when the law does. The version in force is the one published at this address, and the date at the top of the page is the date it took effect. A change that materially affects how information is handled is summarised at the top of this page for thirty days.
18. How to reach the operator
Questions about this notice, access and correction requests, and complaints all go to Connor MacDonald, 2232 Bloor St W, Toronto, Ontario M6S 1N6, Canada, by telephone on +1 416-769-9909 or by e-mail to editors@strifepeek.com.
